And the winner is ….

The greenhouse erupts in a cacophony of cheers and groans! In a stunning David-and-Goliath upset, the unassuming Thuja Nigra has vanquished the terrifying Chamaecyparis Crippsii! Their patient defense and surprising resilience proved too much for the Crippsii’s digestive dominance.

The crowd, a vibrant tapestry of meticulously pruned hedges and lively yellow Forsythia, sways with the news. Thuja Nigra, once a mere Cinderella story, has bloomed into a champion, proving that even the quietest contender can take home the coveted title of Plant Supreme!

Congratulations to the Nigra! Until next year, when the Spring Showdown commences anew, and the greenhouse prepares for another season of botanical brawls!

Pandemonium reigns in the greenhouse!

The Final Two dream of Blue Maid® has been ruthlessly extinguished by the relentless Crippsii. Their digestive enzymes continue to dominate, leaving a path of fallen contenders in their wake.

Across the arena, the echoes of a buzzer-beater victory still hang in the air. The Cinderella Nigra, defying all odds, has pulled off another improbable upset, leaving the valiant Tauntonii to wilt in defeat.

Only two remain! Thuja Nigra, the unassuming dark horse, and Chamaecyparis Crippsii, the undisputed terror of the bracket. Will the underdog story continue, or will the carnivorous reign of Crippsii prevail? The stage is set for a clash of titans, a botanical battle for the ages!

Final Four Showdown!

The greenhouse gasps! The unthinkable has happened! The #1 seed, the regal Elegantissima, has been dethroned by the Cinderella story of the season – the unassuming Nigra! Its dark horse reputation has been shed, replaced with the glittering crown of victory.

Meanwhile, Crippsii, the cunning Chamaecyparis, maintains its ruthless reign, its digestive enzymes dissolving any challenger who dare enter their territory. This time, the victim was the surprising Dragon Lady®, who was finally sent to the burn pile.

The remaining contenders are a mixed bag: the stoic Blue Maid® and the ever-silent Tauntonii. Who will rise and claim a spot in the Final Two? The air crackles with anticipation, the outcome as unpredictable as the Maryland spring weather itself!

Down to the Elite 8!!

The greenhouse buzzes with a frenetic energy! Rooting sections, comprised of meticulously pruned hedges and lively yellow Forsythia, erupt in cheers as the final eight contenders take their positions.

In a stunning display of spectacular play, it looks like ALL of the deciduous teams have been eliminated! It’s an all-evergreen show for the remainder of the Showdown!

The tension is palpable, thicker than the morning dew clinging to spiderwebs. On one side of the bracket, stoic Crippsii, undefeated in its dominance, face a surprising challenge from Dragon Lady®, who’ve used its acrobatic skills to great effect.

Meanwhile, Nigra, intoxicated by its own intoxicating play, prepares to face Elegantissima, whose coarse dark-green foliage seems to whisper strategies in the breeze.

Upsets loom large, whispers of victory dance on the air, and every root, stem, and leaf vibrate with the silent question: who will claim glory, and who will wilt under the pressure?

Welcome to the Sweet 16!!!

The tension is thicker than morning fog in the greenhouse! The Spring Showdown, the most prestigious plant brawl of the year, has whittled down its contenders to a mere sixteen. After two rounds of ruthless competition, Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Crippsii’ has dethroned the champion Prunus x yedoensis Cascade Snow™ in a stunning upset, while the cunning Thuja occidentalis ‘Nigra’ have ambushed their way through the bracket.

Can the resilient Blue Maid® fend off the determined ‘Patriot’? Will the mighty ‘Greenwave’ topple the acrobatic Bosque®? Every leaf trembles with anticipation as the final sixteen prepare to battle it out for the coveted title of Plant Supreme! Check back next week for the results of this round – and the Elite 8!
